Council selects new venue for Synod and sets the registration fee

Notice to Members of Synod, Churchwardens and Treasurers from the Honorary Secretaries of Synod:

The Agenda Committee is hard at work preparing for our next Regular Session of Synod in 2015.  Consequently, the Committee would like to bring to your attention the follow matters:

  • Date – November 13 and 14, 2015
  • Location – Sheraton Parkway Toronto North (600 Highway 7 East, Richmond Hill, Ontario)
  • Registration Fee – $99.00 per member

Date

The 156th Regular Session of Synod will be held on Friday, November 13 and Saturday, November 14, 2015.

As part of the Working Group on Synod’s recommendation, a new format for Synod is being proposed. While the “business” portion of the Agenda will be fine-tuned closer to Synod, the Agenda Committee, in consultation with the College of Bishops, have developed the following high-level Agenda. The Agenda outline is being provided for information.

Friday, November 13, 2015

9:30 am to 11:00 am – Registration
11:00 am – Eucharist
12:00 noon – Buffet Lunch
1:30 pm to 5:30 pm – Business Session
5:30 pm – Cash Bar/Dinner ‘on your own’/Social/Networking/Free time/Display Tables

Saturday, November 14, 2015

9:00 am to 1:00 pm – Business Session

Location

The 156th Regular Session of Synod will be held at the Sheraton Parkway Toronto North, 600 Highway 7 East, Richmond Hill, Ontario.

Following our last Regular Session of Synod in November 2013, the Agenda Committee, and many members of Synod, were extremely disappointed with the level of service we received from the Doubletree International Plaza Hotel. After a long-standing and positive relationship with the Hotel, and after careful consideration, the Agenda Committee sought out alternative venues. The venue selected meets all our requirements.

Registration Fee for Synod

The Diocesan Council has set the Registration Fee for the 156th Regular Session of Synod at $99.00 per member.  Parishes will be invoiced in June 2015 based on full attendance for their Synod fees through the accounts receivable process. Non-voting synod members and retired clergy will be asked to pay their fees when they send in their pre-registration forms.

The parish registration fee helps to cover the costs of food and beverages, facilities and some accommodation. The accommodation for qualifying members (Lay Members and one cleric from the parishes in the Deaneries of Durham & Northumberland, Holland, Huronia, Nottawasaga, Peterborough, Tecumseth, and Victoria & Haliburton) was incorporated into the calculation.

Logistical details of how rooms will be reserved are still in the early planning stages.  As we approach Synod, a pre-registration deadline will be communicated and strictly enforced.  This means that if you do not pre-register for Synod prior to the registration deadline, you will not be able to take advantage of accommodation.

Synod members are asked to monitor the Diocesan website  (www.toronto.anglican.ca/synod) for more information and updates.
