Summer hours begin this week Beginning this week, the synod office will be open Monday to Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and closed on Fridays. Regular office hours will resume right after the Labour Day weekend. Area bishops’ offices will also be closed on Fridays until Labour Day.

NEW dates for pre-synod meetings All episcopal areas will hold meetings this fall to prepare for the synod meeting on Nov. 17. Budget, Canon 29 and elections will be on the agenda. Synod members, clergy, treasurers, and churchwardens are encouraged to attend, as certain items, such as the budget, will only be discussed in detail at these meetings, not during synod.
Please mark your calendars; locations will be determined closer to the meeting date.
New non-refundable tax credit available Effective July 1, the federal TD1 has been revised to include a new non-refundable tax credit for employees with children under 18 years of age. Housing Advocacy Workshop held Sept. 8 Before your fall calendar fills up, take a moment to sign up for a Housing Advocacy Workshop on Sept. 8 in Toronto, sponsored by the Social Justice and Advocacy Board. With a provincial election in October, this workshop is planned to show Anglicans how to raise housing issues in the campaign, meet with others from your region and hear from candidates from the parties.
It takes place at St. John, York Mills, 19 Don Ridge Dr., Toronto, near the York Mills subway stop. There’s no registration fee, but a $10 donation for lunch would be appreciated. Stewardship conference focuses on leadership, giving The diocese’s Stewardship Development Board will host the second annual Celebrating Authentic Stewardship Conference on Oct. 20 at St. George’s, Pickering, from 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The keynote speaker will be Marilyn MacKenzie, who gave an excellent presentation on the fundamentals of volunteer recruitment and management at last year’s conference.
Workshop topics include drafting and presenting an effective narrative budget, planned giving for congregations, and marketing your parish to your community. The conference is suited for those who seek to create vibrant faith communities and those who want a greater insight into stewardship as a lifestyle. Clergy, wardens and stewardship volunteers are especially welcome. Resources will be distributed at all workshops.

Parishes can update subscription lists for The Anglican All identifiable contributors to the Anglican Church of Canada are entitled to receive The Anglican and The Anglican Journal. This includes all parish envelope users. Changes and cancellations to individual subscriptions can be made through The Anglican Journal’s Subscription Centre. Also, each parish has a parish subscription listing for qualifying parishioners, which can be updated using the electronic forms provided by the Subscription Centre.
