The service of ordination for the new suffragan bishop of Toronto, Bishop-elect Peter Fenty, will be streamed live on the diocese’s website beginning at 10:30 a.m. EST on Saturday, June 22 from St. James Cathedral in Toronto. The webcast will also be shown in the Cathedral Centre’s Snell Hall during the service.

For those unable to watch the webcast at that time, the webcast will archived on the diocese’s YouTube channel and will be available for viewing any time after 9 p.m. EST on Saturday, June 22.

Viewers across Canada, the United States and the Caribbean are expected to watch the webcast. During the service, Archbishop Colin Johnson will be joined by Archbishop Fred Hiltz, who is the Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada, the bishops of Ontario and four visiting bishops of the Church in the Province of the West Indies, including their Primate, Archbishop John Holder. They will lay hands on the head of Bishop-elect Fenty. He will be presented with the symbols of his office by the suffragan bishops of Toronto. These include a pectoral cross, an episcopal ring, a staff and a mitre. The service will feature a choir, steel pan and piano music.

Bishop-elect Fenty, 61, was elected a suffragan bishop in the Diocese of Toronto on April 6. He was born and raised in Barbados and served in three churches there before serving in the Diocese of Montreal and the Diocese of Toronto. He will become the area bishop of York-Simcoe, one of four Episcopal areas that make up the Diocese of Toronto.
