Diocesan Centre to observe summer hours
Between Canada Day and Labour Day, the Diocesan Centre will close at 2 p.m. on Fridays.
Diocesan email addresses to be rolled out
As announced at the parish leadership workshops in March, the Diocese is giving each congregation three diocesan email addresses: one for the incumbent or priest-in-charge, one for the churchwardens and one for the parish administrator. For more details about why the Diocese is doing this and what it means for your congregation, see the Q&A document. Each congregation will soon receive instructions on how to set up their email addresses. If you have any concerns about this process, contact Tracey Gordon at tgordon@toronto.anglican.ca.

Registration open for outreach conference
The annual diocesan Outreach & Advocacy Conference will be held on Oct. 19 at Havergal College, with the theme “Grounded and Growing in Christ: Church as a centre of resistance and hope.” With keynote speaker Thea Prescod and a full range of workshops, participants will explore how the Church can counter injustices with strategies of resilience and hope. Youth age 11 and older are particularly invited to attend the youth-focused workshop in the morning and youth-friendly options in the afternoon. Save the date: Social Media Sunday
An annual tradition in churches around the world, the 2019 edition of Social Media Sunday is scheduled for Sept. 29. This is a day to demonstrate the power of social media to bring God’s love into the digital world, grow relationships, invite friends to see what God is doing in your community, and help each other feel more comfortable with sharing our faith online. Consider posting a thought from the sermon, inviting friends to church online or sharing a photo or video, all using the hashtag #sms19. Refugee sponsors invited to brunch
AURA (the Anglican-United Refugee Alliance) is holding a World Refugee Day brunch on June 23 at 12:30 p.m. at the Olde Stone Cottage Pub, 3750 Kingston Rd., Toronto. Come to celebrate the strength and courage of refugees, meet other sponsors, listen to live music and be inspired by Dr. Brian Goldman, who will share insights on the importance of empathy for refugee sponsorship. Register now for ReCharge youth retreat
The annual ReCharge fall retreat for youth age 12-17 will take place on Sept. 13-15 at Muskoka Woods. This year’s theme is “How to get closer to Jesus through our Prayer life.” Register online. The cost is $105 per person.

Film examines Doctrine of Discovery
Stolen Land, Strong Hearts, a documentary examining the Doctrine of Discovery and its implications for Indigenous-settler relations in Canada, will be screened on June 14 at 7 p.m. at St. John the Evangelist, Peterborough. The evening will include a welcome from the Rev. Canon Ginny Doctor, the film’s executive producer, as well as a presentation on Indigenous spirituality from Lynn Gehl. Diocese of Huron hosts justice camp
The Diocese of Huron is hosting Respect Justice Camp from Aug. 13-19 in Windsor, bringing together Anglican adults from across Canada to learn and reflect on current social justice issues. Intensive immersive experiences offer hands-on learning, set in the context of biblical and theological reflection. Visit www.justicecamp.ca for details. Webinar explores Rwandan health initiative
The Primate’s World Relief and Development Fund is hosting a live webinar on June 13 at 1 p.m. with Antoinette Habinshuti, deputy executive director of Partners in Health Rwanda. As the world marks the 25th anniversary of the Rwandan genocide, Ms. Habinshuti offers a story from the front lines of the rebuilding that has taken place. Register online.
Faith communities called to support refugees
Romero House and the Ontario Sanctuary Coalition are hosting “Legal Aid Cuts Hurt Refugees: Calls to Action for Faith Communities” on June 19 from 7-9 p.m. at Bloor Street United Church, 300 Bloor St. W., Toronto. The event will feature a panel discussion on the impact of provincial cuts to legal aid and how faith communities can support refugees who have been affected. Priest launches book on food and our bodies
The Rev. Canon Martha Tatarnic, the former incumbent of St. David, Orillia and now the incumbent of St. George in St. Catharines, has written The Living Diet: A Christian Journey to Joyful Eating, a new book that offers a hopeful perspective on how to understand our relationship with the food we eat and the bodies in which we live. Canon Tatarnic will be attending a book launch and signing on June 13 from 7-8:30 p.m. at Broughton’s Church Supplies, 322 Consumers Rd., Toronto. Wine and cheese will be served. Liturgy conference explores the Sending
Liturgy Canada presents “God Sends Us in Mission,” the fifth event its Renewing Liturgy series, on Sept. 28 at All Saints Lutheran Anglican Church in Guelph. This conference will help to restore the Sending as an essential act in the Eucharistic celebration. Screening & sexual misconduct policy resources available
The Diocese is committed to making sure clergy and those responsible for liturgical, pastoral, educational and recreational activities maintain the highest ethical standards of mutual respect, responsibility and caring, as well as modeling wholeness and healthy sexuality in their relationships with those for whom they have responsibility. The Diocese addresses this commitment through:

Immigrants invited to participate in survey
A research project on citizenship, employment and precarity is collecting information about the employment experiences of people who arrived in Canada in 1997 or later without Permanent Resident status. Participants are asked to complete a confidential online survey, available in 10 languages. The findings will provide insight into the relationship between immigration status, precarious work and the social determinants of health, which will help community organizations and churches in their advocacy efforts. Prayer fellowship seeking new diocesan contact
The Anglican Fellowship of Prayer (AFP) Canada has a diocesan contact in each diocese. Tony Day, who has acted in this role for many years in Toronto, is stepping down and looking for someone to replace him, with the hope that a new diocesan contact will reinvigorate the initiative. In the past, the AFP in Toronto has run a diocesan prayer conference and parish prayer workshops. If you feel called to this task, Mr. Day will work with you during the transition.
