Social, Educational

Grace Tucker, Andrew Brewin, Cyril Powles – these are the names of some who stood with Japanese Canadians during their times of trial in the past. Several missionaries in the Anglican communion and politicians of conscience who are still beloved will be remembered for their presence and advocacy at an event of thanksgiving and celebration.

On October 5, 2019, 5:00 to 9:00, Ed Broadbent will be the main speaker at a potluck event to be held at the Church of the Holy Trinity where many redress rallies and actions were initiated during the 1980’s as the call for redress was underway. Holy Trinity was the site for the first public meeting in Toronto on redress. Shin Imai, well known human rights lawyer will be MC. He is also the son of the Japanese Anglican priest who served in the 50’s when the congregation met at the Church of the Holy Trinity.

Other speakers include John Brewin, former Member of Parliament for Victoria, who will speak of his father Andrew Brewin.

All are invited to join in the spirit of thankfulness that underlies the impetus for this event sponsored by the Church of the Holy Trinity, JCSJ (Japanese Canadians for Social Justice), and St. Andrew’s Japanese Anglican Congregation.
