Anglican Diocese of Toronto Foundation

“One generation shall praise Your works to another, And shall declare Your mighty acts.” Psalm 145:4

Incorporated in 1999, the Anglican Diocese of Toronto Foundation, exists to provide financial support for the Diocese of Toronto or any parish of the Diocese. It is the key charitable arm of the Diocese of Toronto tasked with raising support for the episcopacy, FaithWorks, diocesan parishes, and the wider needs of the church community.

In the last five years, over $2,000,000 has been distributed.

Generous Anglicans like you have given to these ministries over the years. Our collective generosity has truly been a response to the call to live out God’s mission here at home and around the world.

“Christ has no body now but yours,
no hands, no feet on earth but yours.
Yours are the eyes through which
he looks Compassion on this world.
Yours are the feet with which
he walks to do good.
Yours are the hands, with which
he blesses all the world.”
-Teresa of Avila

Funds you can support

The Anglican Diocese of Toronto Foundation currently provides financial assistance through the following funds:

Clergy and Theological Students Endowment

This endowment helps with theological education bursaries, research and leadership development, including support for the Malvern Bursary Program for first-year university students.

The John Strachan Trust

This trust helps fund the Office of the Bishop of Toronto. It allows us to leave a legacy for the future Church and to support the Bishop’s ministry as a leader, shepherd, teacher and advocate.

FaithWorks Endowment

FaithWorks is the annual appeal of the Diocese of Toronto, offering help and hope to people in need living in south-central Ontario and around the world. Services are provided to everyone in need, regardless of church affiliation.

The Canon Robert L. Falby Memorial Endowment for Aboriginal Ministry

Canon Falby served as chancellor of the Diocese of Toronto and prolocutor of General Synod for many years. He also served with great wisdom and courage during the negotiations that led to the Indian Residential Schools Settlement Agreement. This fund has been established through the Diocese of Toronto Foundation for those who wish to remember Canon Falby and honour the work of reconciliation with our Indigenous brothers and sisters and our church.

The Douglas C. Cowling Bursary in Liturgical Music

The Douglas C. Cowling Bursary in Liturgical Music was established in 2018 by the family of Mr. Cowling to honour his commitment to creating and performing beautiful church music. The award encourages creative musical/liturgical experimentation with the aim of fostering full liturgical participation by all age-groups of the ‘people of God’.  A $5,000 bursary is awarded annually to a part-time musician currently working within a parish in the Anglican Diocese of Toronto to further the musician’s own liturgical training or provide creative liturgical enrichment in the musician’s ecclesial setting.

The Most Reverend Frederick James Hiltz Scholarship

The Most Reverend Frederick James Hiltz Scholarship was established in 2018 to honour the ministry of the 13th Primate of the Anglican Church of Canada. The purpose of the Scholarship is to provide financial assistance to clergy and lay people from across the Canadian Church, seeking to attend Saint George’s College, Jerusalem, Israel.  Up to six (6) scholarships will be awarded annually by the Foundation, upon the recommendation of the Bishop of Toronto.  Applications are received by an independent committee and awarded when proof of travel plans have been secured.

Board of Directors

The foundation is governed by a Board of Directors made up of clergy and lay people. We are honoured by their commitment of time and finances.
