Learn the introductory framework for understanding neurodiversity (autism, ADD, ADHD, learning disability, etc.) in children’s ministry, moving beyond behavior-based assumptions to consider neurological differences, sensory safety, communication and relational connection. Through real-life case studies, participants will examine foundational principles in architecting a neuro-inclusive children’s ministry. The workshop will provide an introduction on how to teach the Bible faithfully to neurodiverse children while accounting for diverse (and possibly unknown) cognitive capacities and learning styles.
Facilitators: Jina Lee (BHsc, JD, MA candidate in Theology/Ministry), parent of autistic child, Children’s Ministry Director and Shirley Gim (BA, MA in Applied Behaviour Analysis, MDiv candidate), Behavioral Therapist, Children’s Ministry intern
