For Leslie Hajdu, ODT, volunteering isn’t something she does; it’s woven into the fabric of her life. Her commitment to service began early, shaped by the example of her mother, who served with dedication in the Girl Guides, first as a Tawny Owl and later as District Commander. Watching her mother lead, mentor and build community taught Leslie that giving your time and gifts is one of the most meaningful ways to strengthen the world around you.
That early example blossomed into a lifelong pattern of service. Leslie has been deeply involved in her parish and across the Diocese for many years, offering her leadership as a lay reader, a member of Synod Council and a steady presence in ministries that support worship, formation and community life. She sees volunteering as a practical expression of her faith – a way to live out her values, support the Church’s mission and help others experience belonging and hope.
One of the most meaningful moments in Leslie’s journey of service was receiving the Order of the Diocese of Toronto (ODT). She has described this recognition as a profound honour – not because she seeks accolades, but because it affirmed the work, relationships and quiet acts of service she has offered over many years. For Leslie, the ODT symbolizes the privilege of serving alongside others who share a commitment to faith, community and compassion.
Professionally, Leslie built a successful career in the financial sector, developing strong analytical skills, sound judgment and a deep understanding of governance and accountability. These strengths make her an invaluable member of the Foundation’s Finance Committee, where she helps ensure responsible stewardship and long‑term sustainability. Her ability to translate complex financial information into clear, thoughtful guidance is a gift to the board and the wider community.
Since joining the board in 2015, Leslie has served with dedication, humility and a genuine desire to help the Church thrive. As secretary of the board, she brings organization, clarity and a steady hand to the Foundation’s governance. She is known for her thoughtful insights, her willingness to listen and her commitment to making decisions that reflect both compassion and accountability.
Over the years, Leslie has continued to learn and grow through her volunteer work – deepening her understanding of the Church, strengthening her leadership skills and building relationships that enrich her life and the lives of others. She embodies the spirit of faithful service that strengthens our entire community, and we are grateful for the many ways she shares her gifts.
