Finding Common Ground: Where Music & Love Meet

Finding Common Ground: Where Music & Love Meet

  • Music

A plea and guiding map for humanity, expressed in music, receives its world premiere when the Upper Canada Choristers and their accomplished Latin ensemble Cantemos premiere “Common Ground”, a 6-movement cycle written for them by their music director, Laurie Evan Fraser. The new work is dedicated to the insightful and widely followed U.S. historian Heather Cox Richardson, who advocates for “art as joyful resistance”. The music features settings of poetry in English by Jacqui Atkin and in Spanish by Jacinto Salcedo. With the instrumental participation of the choir’s pianist Hye Won (Cecilia) Lee, and guest oboist Karen Ages.

In line with the theme of empathy and understanding, the choir performs Broadway numbers by Richard Rodgers, Lerner and Lowe, and others. Cantemos sings Venezuela’s energetic unofficial national anthem, Alma llanera (Soul of the Plains).

TICKETS, $30, are available from https://tinyurl.com/Eventbrite-FindingCommonGround. Children and youths 16 and under are admitted free when accompanied by an adult.

ALSO STREAMING LIVE: The performance also streams online via https://www.uppercanadachoristers.org and https://bit.ly/4l22UT0. There is no charge, but donations are most welcome.
