Archbishop offers prayers, best wishes for Pope Francis

His Eminence, Thomas Cardinal Collins and the clergy and people of the Archdiocese of Toronto,

Grace and peace to you.

I offer my own prayers and best wishes, and assure you of the prayers of the people of the Anglican Diocese of Toronto for His Holiness, Pope Francis, as he assumes this new ministry in the service of Christ and His Church.

While Anglicans do not accept the jurisdiction of the Roman Pontiff in our decisions, we recognize him as one of the pre-eminent leaders of the Christian world, whose proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ profoundly guides not only the faith of more than 1 billion Roman Catholics, but also significantly influences Christians of all traditions, indeed people of good will everywhere.

May God grant Pope Francis the grace of holy wisdom and persevering charity as he seeks to exercise the onerous and wonderful work to which he has now been called in Christ’s name.

Your brother in Christ,

+Colin

The Most Rev’d Colin R. Johnson,
Archbishop of Toronto and Metropolitan of Ontario
