Bishop George H. Elliott is the area bishop of the episcopal area of York-Simcoe.
He was born in 1949 and obtained his Master of Divinity degree from Wycliffe College and the Toronto School of Theology in 1979. He was ordained a priest in May, 1980, and served several parishes in the Diocese of Toronto, most recently at All Saints, King City, and St. Stephen, Maple. He also served as a regional dean and on a number of diocesan committees.
He was elected bishop on Dec. 2, 2000, and was consecrated area bishop on Feb. 3, 2001.
The York-Simcoe episcopal area
The York-Simcoe episcopal area consists of 47 parishes – 28 single-point and 19 multi-point – with a total of 74 congregations. The area is located in the northwest part of the Diocese, taking in York Region and Simcoe County. There are 57 active clergy, including three deacons and 45 retired clergy. There are several chaplains, including four hospital chaplains, one mental health chaplain, chaplains for Canadian Forces Base Borden, a summer provincial park chaplain, and a Newmarket court chaplain.
