Area Bishop’s Company Dinner
A big thank you to all who helped to make the York-Credit Valley Bishop’s Company Dinner such a success.
It was a splendid occasion. Just over 200 people heard Jerry Howarth speak of his faith journey in the context of his baseball experience. I hope those of you who attended enjoyed the evening as much as I did. The event raised over $21,000. We could not have achieved this without the terrific support we received by way of auction items and ticket sales from parishes in our Area.

The Bishop Takes a Trip Down Memory Lane
On Sunday, September 14th, the Anglican parish of Christ Church Stouffville celebrated the 30th anniversary of its current worship space. The guest celebrant and preacher for this occasion was Bishop Philip Poole who was the Rector of Christ Church back in 1984 when the worship space was built.
A full church welcomed back Bishop Poole and his wife Karen as everyone took a walk down memory lane with slides, music and fellowship. During the service the church space was rededicated and the Bishop spoke about the hard work and love that went into expanding into the new space all those years ago. He spoke of the dedication and commitment of the parishioners and how that spirit has continued into the present as seen in the many ways that Christ Church ministers to the community and those in need.
Following the service there was a luncheon for the almost 200 guests which included speeches from former church members as well as Bishop Poole. A big thank you goes out to all of those people who made the event so special and for all of the former parish members who came back to celebrate a very special place.

St. David’s Lunch Club
” This is a picture of some of the members of the St. David’s club who put on their final luncheon for the year yesterday. These luncheons are a lot of work and well attended. I thought that you might like this picture. I am not an official member, but I get to say grace, pour tea and occasionally scoop ice cream and dry dishes!” The Rev. Joyce Barnett

Confirmation at St. Michael and All Angels
On June 1, 2014, St. Michael and All Angels welcomed Bishop Philip Poole. Bishop Poole confirmed Shyanna Jona Ramdas, Rachel Simone Seymour, Mikhala Danielle Richarson Harvey Kassaundara Laurel Isabelle Mars and Warren Michael Fitzroy Mars.
It was a splendid day and one in which the parish and those to be confirmed were in great anticipation. The service began with an out door procession a long St. Clair West and entered the main portal of the church to proceed down the nave.
Bishop Poole chatted with passersby as the procession proceeded along St. Clair adding to the festive mood of the day. Our Wardens with their rods of office lent dignity to the experience. Confirmation was the culmination of the Catechetical Program begun at the beginning of Lent. Rev. Gus and several of the parents coordinated the program which included Bible Study and discussions about Confirmation and the candidates becoming active members of the community. The role of the Holy Spirit as Advocate, Counselar, Wisdom and Strength, were topics also discussed.
Bishop Poole led the service in an active, joyful and personal fashion, which connected with all present.
Thank you, Bishop,
St. Michael and All Angels

Consecration and Confirmation
Sunday, April 27 was a very special day in the life of St. Thomas à Becket Church. Bishop Philip Poole and the area liturgical officer, The Rev. Canon Steven Mackison, were present for the Consecration of St. Thomas à Becket Church and for the Confirmation of four youth and four adults before continuing on with Holy Communion.
The service began with the rather dramatic traditional practice of Bishop Poole “knocking” on the closed doors to the sanctuary with the end of his crosier, along with the bishop’s proclamation “let the doors be opened!” With musical fanfare the wardens opened the doors and the bishop stepped into the worship area, then offering a special greeting and prayer.
During the processional hymn the choir, the rector, The Rev. Canon Jim Woolley, Honorary Assistant, The Rev. Canon Dr. Isaac. Kawuki Mukasa, The Rev. Canon Steven Mackison and the Bishop moved to the front of the chancel steps for the Prayer of Consecration.
The Rector and Churchwardens had become aware that a Consecration Service had not taken place since the mortgage had been paid off in 2000, following the building of the present worship space in 1996, an addition to the original space built in 1977. The congregation’s first service was on September 24, 1972.
Those being confirmed included two brothers, a mother and daughter (both had been baptized by the rector), and a husband and wife. The celebratory time concluded with a finger food luncheon and cake.

Ashes to Go
