More than 50 volunteers from the Diocese of Toronto met at the site of General Synod on June 20 for an orientation session.

General Synod will be held at the Sheraton Parkway Toronto North Hotel in Richmond Hill on July 7-12. About 300 people from across Canada, the United States and overseas are expected to attend. The Diocese of Toronto is the official host.

The evening started with a welcome and introductions by Laura Walton, chair of the Local Arrangements Committee, the Ven. Michael Thompson, General Secretary, and the Very Rev. Peter Wall, chair of the General Synod Planning Committee.

The volunteers were given details of their various assignments, which includes greeting delegates, providing on-site hospitality and staffing the registration and information desks. They also toured the facilities, were given a floor plan and reviewed emergency procedures and who to contact for assistance.

“The Diocese of Toronto is ready to meet, greet, and welcome General Synod delegates from across Canada,” says Ms. Walton. “Thanks be to God for all the volunteers in the Diocese of Toronto!”

In addition to providing volunteers, the diocese will play a key role in General Synod’s opening and closing ceremonies.
