Health & Safety

We’re committed to providing workplaces free of personal injuries, occupational illnesses, damage to property and harm to the environment. Parishes need to comply with the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) and other related legislation.

Much of the responsibility for implementing healthy and safe workplace practices falls to the churchwardens. The resources and templates below can help you put safety measures in place that meet your legal obligations. You can also download templates for parish training.

The General Information for all Parishes booklet is a good place to start. It outlines rights, responsibilities and requirements under the Health and Safety Act.

Training

The Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act requires health and safety awareness training for every worker and supervisor. To learn more about the regulation, training requirements and free training resources, visit the Ministry of Labour’s website.

Churchwardens are responsible for implementing health and safety in their parishes, including making sure all employees have received health and safety training. The resources below will help you with this.
