Stretch Grants: The Next Generation

Many of our successful Missional Reach Grant recipients report that their projects continue to thrive. Some projects have the potential to reach beyond the achievement of their first iteration and become mature, stable points of contact for the un-churched and de-churched with our traditional churches. These ideas, first launched with seed money from Reach Grants, may need more funding to reach full, self-sustaining maturity.

Stretch Grants are one-time grants of $5,000 to $20,000 designed to boost the reach and ministry of successful projects.

What is different from your Reach Grant? Up to 50% of the grant can be used to support personnel costs or honorariums for ministry.

Who can apply?

You can apply to the Reach Grant Panel for a Stretch Grant if:

  • You’ve submitted a Reach Grant report to the Volunteer Coordinator summing up what worked, what didn’t, what you learned and what you might recommend to others who wish to study your original Reach Grant model.
  • You’ve demonstrated that your goals (initial or recalibrated in the face of the need to be flexible) have been achieved, i.e.: Christ-centred community has been formed reaching the de-churched or un-churched.
  • You’re in full compliance with all diocesan policies and financial requirements.

Reporting is very important to the Diocese. The panel and the Department of Congregational Development and Mission use this information to help other missional ideas flourish.

How to apply

You can submit an application to reach@toronto.anglican.ca at any time.

This is a paper review process conducted by the Reach Grant Panel, which means no pitch is required. If the panel has follow-up questions, we’ll email them to you after the panel meets to discuss your application.

Much like Reach Grants, you should satisfy this check list in a three-page narrative application:

  • We have described our project and explained why we think we need to go to the next level.
  • We have outlined our plan for how we will address the needs and/or opportunities we have identified.
  • We know who will lead this initiative as stated on our proposal.
  • We have listed the resources we will need to be successful. (Attach a one-page budget summary as an appendix to your application. Show us your personnel costs in a clearly identifiable manner.)
  • We have identified what resources our congregation will contribute.
  • We have set out how we will measure the success of our project. (If successful, where do we wish the ministry to be in one year?)
  • We have the support of our parish leadership (lay and clergy).
  • We have the support of our area bishop.
